JRiver Media Center is a multimedia application that allows the user to play and organize various types of media on a computer running Windows or Mac OS X. JRiver Media Center is a "jukebox"-style media player, like iTunes, which usually uses most of the screen to display a potentially very large library of files.

- Media Center can provide High Definition sound to the receiver when the right equipment is available. Usually this is done by streaming dts-HD or Dolby TrueHD to a receiver which decodes the sound and provides it to the 5.1 or x.1 speaker set. It can also be done by Media Center if the sound device on the HTPC supports surround sound speakers. Media Center can apply many adjustments for this purpose.
